First Farmers Market

I set my alarm this morning to go to my very first farmers market. I was super excited to go and see all the fresh veggies! Well, my alarm didn't go off. :(

It all turned out okay, though. The husband and I were able to make it there, and we bought some yummy new potatoes and tomatoes. For my first time at a farmers market, it was a decent experience. Everyone there was very nice, and it was good to see that people actually care about what goes into their food! The only problem was that it was small. So, come on, Fort Smith! Let's build it up! :)

After picking up some other groceries, we came home to find this:

It's the first flower! How exciting! My husband's grandfather has BEAUTIFUL hydrangeas in his yard, so he transplanted this plant for me a few weeks ago. I was so happy to pull into the driveway and see a hint of blue.

Now we're going to spend the rest of the day cleaning up the inside of the house, as well as the outside. It's a beautiful day, we're having guests tonight, and we're just going to spend time enjoying the rest of God's blessings! Have a great weekend! :)

Summer Lovin'

For those of you who know about Arkansas weather, summers are hot and humid. The days are sweltering...the kind where you can hardly walk to the mailbox without sweating.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm a cold weather person. I love nothing better than bundling up in a cute coat, complete with scarf and hat. (This set is perfection!) Like anyone else, I do have my limits...after a month or so of single digit temps, I too am ready for some warmer weather. 90 degrees and humid isn't exactly what I had in mind.

Rather than complaining, I want to take some time to be thankful for where I live. It's hard to compete with Arkansas in the spring and in the fall, but there has to be something pleasant about summer...right? So...to get myself into an attitude of thankfulness and optimism, here are 10 things I love about summer.

1. Tank tops and skirts
2. Coconut lotions
3. Smell of honeysuckle coming through the windows
4. Watermelon
5. Suntans...in my case, sunburns, but I may end up with a little color if I'm lucky! :)
6. Road trips
7. Reading outside under the trees
8. Abundant sunshine and a few summer storms
9. Swimming...in a lake, at a beach, or in a pool-it's fun anywhere!
10. Snow cones (my favorite summertime treat!)

What do you love about summer?

Are You There God? It's Me, Danielle!

I'm learning to listen.

What makes that process so difficult?!

Lately I've been doing too much talking. With my mouth constantly moving, how can I hear what God may be saying to me? Even when I'm not talking, it's easy to avoid listening. You can choose to completely ignore everything, or you can choose wait for what you want to hear, a trait my mom always referred to as "selective hearing."

Maybe it's my human nature that gives me a sense of responsibility and control, but in actuality God takes care of everything. Deep down inside, I know this. But it's too easy for me to try to take over and run things on my own. *sigh* I'm a control freak.

My goal for this week is to LISTEN. I want to wait and hear what God has to say to me. As much as I love my own ideas and advice (note the sarcasm!) I think it's time for me to pay attention to someone who sees the big picture. Feel free to give suggestions on how to listen and let God guide!

"Be still and know that I am God."
-Psalm 46:10

Just Like Starting Over

Here we go again!

Follow me as my husband and I start a new chapter of our lives. This is my last summer as a college student. It's going to be filled with babysitting, working, updating our home, and traveling to Orlando. After that, I'll begin my teaching internship!

God has truly blessed us, and we cannot wait to see what He has in store for our future!

Expect more updates this time!
